ACTUALITY OF NOW

Trapped in the here and now; the result of being human and of living within the time space continuum, which God has ordained as our present dwelling. At this moment, I am writing these words, by pressing buttons on a computer keyboard. Perhaps, at some future moment, you will be reading these words on a digital screen or on paper, as you are now.

I was at church last night; the brilliant and insightful Pastor was preaching a very good sermon on the second chapter of Timothy II. I thought of the uniqueness of the moment. There were about forty people in a building sitting together, listening to a man read and elaborate on the word of God. We came together for that purpose at least on the surface; there could have been other motivations as to why some attended the service. Will this particular group of people ever be united again on earth? I don’t know, but we were together at that point in time, and those moments were unique and special. Will I ever hear that Pastor preach the word of God again, I don’t know but I hope to, but I was there last night, listening to him expound on the word of God, and it was unique, special and I valued the moment, and I thank God for it, because God allowed it to happen.

Much of the time utilitarian purposes and time constraints rob us of acknowledging simple everyday moments in our lives. Being in the moment, thinking about the moment and truly experiencing the moment can be a blessing. Disassociation is purposefully or unconsciously removing one’s self from the present moment, often times because the present moment is painful in some way, or it is a moment we would rather not experience.

There is meaning in pain and joy. Who knows when the last moment on this earth will be for each of us…actually God knows, but we do not usually know. May we value the moments in our lives, and actually be present for them. May we value the time we spend praying to God and listening to his voice, and wondering at his creation. May we value the moments we spend with each other.

We have limited time (moments) upon this planet, may we not ignore them, by always looking forward or backward in time. We live in the present here and now; there is no escaping these dynamics until we enter eternity; then it is heaven forever, if we have given our lives to Jesus Christ, and hell forever, if we have failed to do so; please make the right choice and may Christ bless you. I thank you for choosing to read these words with a few of the valuable and precious moments of your life. Jesus Christ loves you!

PS

Sometimes with a friend or loved one, I just like to sit with them and perhaps not say anything, and just simply spend moments in their presence and experience our surroundings and the presence of each other, and the presence of God around us. Perhaps, I am rare, because most people do not appear to like this; an activity or conversation seems to make them feel more comfortable, but I find meaning in it. Some would say, you’re doing nothing, but I would disagree; we are simply being together experiencing the presence of each other, and experiencing the presence of God around us. Perhaps in such moments God takes the opportunity to speak to us?

Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10
